Tarot cards are 78 cards comprised of the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana with origins possibly dating back to ancient Egypt. They were carried by Gypsies and emerged during the Renaissance and their uses continue to present day as ways of analyzing character, foreseeing futures, finding solutions to obstacles and reading the past. All the women on my mother’s side of my family have been taught to read the tarot cards, and I explore this idea through my artwork by including skulls to represent the remains of my ancestors. The cards are my own contribution to my family tradition.
